Luxor, The "City of Palaces"

Luxor is a city in southern Egypt, on the right bank of the Nile, at the southern part of ancient Thebes, the ancient capital of the New Kingdom, separated by a canal from the northern part, now called Karnak. City name literally means "city of palaces." Apparently Arab invaders from the seventh century, seeing all the temples they think that they are the royal palaces here would derive the name.

The most important place is the temple of Luxor, which is located in the city center. It can be visited both during the day and at night. The temple was created in honor of the three Gods: Amun, Mut and Khonsu. Place these was the southern harem, in which Mut lived with his son Khonsu. Temples built by the two kings Amonhotepa III and Ramses II. Over the next decades it was rebuilt by the ruling pharaohs. After all, he has not lost its original appearance and character. Worth seeing is also the oldest mosque in Luxor - El-Mekashkesh, where are buried corpse X-century Islamic saint. In the Luxor, you can also visit several churches and a great Coptic basilica located near Luxor Temple.

In the city is located, among others, Chapel Serafina, avenue of sphinxes with human heads, six colossuses of Ramses II, pylon with a width of 65 meters, the mosque of Abu al-Haggag, colonnade Amonhotepa III and his court, Hypostyle hall. In the Luxor there are also numerous sanctuaries. It is also refer to a collection of historical objects placed in the Luxor museum. Nearby it was created a museum Mummification.

To Luxor is not worth to choose to stay for a few days because of the very high prices for accommodation and food. Hotels in Luxor try to make the most of the tourists arriving here by dictating high prices. No wonder if tourists staying in the two most popular resorts - Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh, the most frequently decide to just stay two days.

Luxor is one of the most popular with the tourist point of view, cities in Egypt. It is worth visiting Luxor between October and February, when it is still cooler, but the beginning of spring is also a good period, heat waves are not as very painful, and the city is not besieged by tourists

Precisely for this reason, I plan to be here about 3, maybe 4 days, and a list of places that I plan to see it is a very long .
